I heard a story about these doctors that found a new way to treat patients with depression. Instead of using the traditional methods like just giving them medication, they started having their patients make positive declarations.

After doing this, they told how these patients had remarkable results. In fact, some of these patients were facing life threatening diseases and they didn’t feel like there was any hope.

The first thing the doctor would do is ask these patients, “has anyone ever survived this disease? Has anyone ever made it?” And of course the answer was always yes – and the doctor said, “well I want you to start saying, ‘I will be one of the ones to make it! I will be one of the ones to beat the odds!”

And they begin to do this day in and day out. “I’m getting better. I’m recovering. I’m going to make it.” And it’s amazing how many of them, not only came out of that depression, but many of them did make full physical recoveries!

..This story should inspire us in many ways to evaluate our state of mind. It speaks volumes on how our mind plays a big factor not only on our ability to accomplish goals or learn new things in life, but it is a big contributor to our state of well being.

I’m not saying that if you’re depressed to just simply “change your thoughts” and everything will be alright. (No, depression is a mental illness and should be treated with extreme care. If you have symptoms of depression take the step of faith and seek counseling.)

But know that much of the step to recovery is in changing your thoughts. No matter what you’re facing, whether it be depression, fear, worry, doubt or insecurity, know that these are all strongholds that start with negative thinking.

I encourage you that just like these patients who made full recoveries to change your thinking today. You should declare that you are one of the ones who will be healed. You will be one of the ones to own that multi-million dollar per year business.

Declare today that you can make it through anything that comes your way. In doing this I believe that you will tap into the full abundance that God has in store for you!

Experts say that one of the best things we can do to combat in-securities is to focus on our assets. We should write down those things that we have going for us and put them in a visible place where we see it everyday.

I totally agree. I believe this is one of the best things that you can do for yourself. Whether it be an insecurity or any thought that you want to change, make a choice to write down your positive attributes and focus on them.

Today I want to encourage you that optimism is at hand. Know that you can erase those defeatist negative thoughts and replace them with encouraging and uplifting thoughts.

Maybe someone told you that you’d never accomplish your goal. They probably said you weren’t strong enough. No, I dare you to combat that thought today. Know that you can do all things through Christ which strengthens you.

You may have grown up in an environment where you were encouraged not to dream. You were probably told that it’s pointless to dream and that your dreams won’t come to pass. No, the scripture says that you should write the vision and make it plain. Dare to dream today! There are endless possibilities out there awaiting you!

You may have restrictions on you. You may feel like you’re limited to what you can accomplish in life. Because of this you might feel like you’re in bondage. No, you should believe contrary. The scripture says whom the son sets free is truly free indeed.

Anything thought that has been holding you back from your destiny, negate it with a powerful scripture or affirmation of some type. Write it down on a post-it note and stick it on your bathroom mirror. Every time you wake up and look in the mirror, you will be reminded of your strengths and not your weaknesses.

Know that you can accomplish anything that you set your mind to do. But understand that it starts with your thoughts. If you can believe it then you can achieve it. Today, take a hand full of post-it notes and write down that which you have going for you. Post it on your bathroom mirror and watch supernatural miracles happen as you charge forth on your journey of life!

Doctors say that not all bacteria is bad for you. Sure you have the kind of bacteria that causes inflammation in your body. The kind of bacteria that causes you to get sick – the kind that causes diseases.

But studies show that some bacteria is actually good for you. Some bacteria can actually strengthen your immune system. This bacteria will in turn cause you to fight off sickness and disease. My friend, I like to liken this sort of mentality to the way we think.

You see, experts say that you should eliminate all “what if” thinking completely. You know those thoughts of worry, fear, doubt, insecurity… “Well, what if I can’t overcome this addiction?” “What if I can’t be made whole?” “What if the doctor’s report comes back negative?” “What if I try out for the team and I don’t make it?“

For the most part you do want to avoid this kind of thinking. An overflow of these thoughts can indeed cause you to flow into a downward spiral.

However, we all have those times when we can’t help but think “what if” thoughts. Sometimes they’re not all bad. In fact, I believe some “what if” thoughts can cause you to break out of ruts.

I’m reminded of a time when I was younger and I touched a hot stove. Before I ever touched the hot stove, I always thought – “What happens if I touch the hot stove… how hot can it be?” Well, one day I worked up the nerve to touch the stove and I must say it was the hottest touch I ever experienced. Thankfully, my instincts caused an immediate jerk reaction. It was at that time I learned what does happen when I touch a hot stove and vowed to never do it again.

Well, this is what should happen when we find ourselves thinking “what if” thoughts. We should allow them to instill just enough fear into us that no matter what happens in life, we know that God has our best interests at heart and therefore we should not worry.

You see, it’s the “what if” thoughts that give us character. It’s the “what if” thoughts that spark our curiosity and gives us the experience to know what’s good for us and what’s not good for us.

“Well what if I don’t win the race?” Well, what if you don’t win the race? Will you give up? Will you become saturated in defeat or will you press on until you reach victory?
“What if I don’t do well on the test?” Well, what if you don’t do well? Will you let that discourage you or will you use that let-down to catapult you onto the dean’s list?

Rest assured that when you take the high road, you’re causing strength to your supernatural immune system. You’re fighting off diseases and building courage! You’re strengthening your faith!

You see, you’ve got to use those negative thoughts to empower you to do better. No matter what happens in life, your thinking shouldn’t be “what if,” your thinking should be “what now!” In other words, you should always be striving to reach that next level in life.

When the enemy shoots fiery darts of negativity and discouragement in your life, fire back with God’s plan of action for your life!

I believe that God’s ultimate plan will cause you to triumph. God’s plan for your life is that prosperity is in your future. Realize that you’re not inferior, you are superior! Understand today that your best days are ahead of you and that God has an ultimate plan that’s tailor-made just for you!

You have the great ability to be able to speak words of power into your life. You can speak to the mountains in your life, command that they be removed, and they will be moved.

You can turn any bad trial into triumph by speaking encouraging words over yourself.

I’m reminded of the scripture where men were speaking of stoning David, and as a result he became distressed. But David encouraged himself in the Lord. (1 Samuel 30:6)

God has given you the ability to speak anything that you desire into existence, if you go to Him and ask. We know this because Matthew 7:7 exclaims, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.“

It’s important that exercise faith, after going to God and asking of a need. Realize one of the greatest attributes of faith is believing before seeing.

When you command the mountains in your life to move, they have no other choice but to move. We’re encouraged of this because Mark 11:23 reminds us: “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.“

You see God has given you the awesome power to speak victory into your life. It’s up to you release self-doubt, let go of fear, relinquish the self defeat of your past and own up to your destiny.

You owe it to yourself to speak words of life into your future and believe in your heart and not doubt that you are an over-comer. Just like Mark 11:23 says if you speak that the mountains in your life be removed and don’t doubt- keyword doubt- then and only then will it be done for you.

You may say “This mountain is too big, I just don’t see any possible way around it,” well my friend, that’s where the problem begins. If those are the words that you’re speaking then that’s what will come to pass.

As long as you’re speaking negative words of defeat over your life then you will never experience the victory that God has for you. Make a decision today, lift your head up, put your shoulders back, and boldly declare that you are more than a conqueror today and watch awesome miracles take place as you charge forth on your journey of life!

Positive quotes are like a seed that causes internal growth and maturity. Like affirmations, these positive sayings are partly responsible for guiding our thoughts on the right path.

Optimistic life quotes have the ability to shift our thoughts from worry, doubt, aggravation, and fear to inspiration, motivation, faith, and confidence. I have devised a list of 10 positive quotes and biblical references below.

1. Clear your mind of can’t. – Samuel Johnson
(I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. – Philippians 4:13)

2. A man who wants to lead the orchestra must turn his back on the crowd. – Unknown
(Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. – 2 Corinthians 6:17)

3. Adversity causes some men to break; others to break records. – William A. Ward
(If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. – Proverbs 24:10)

4. Character is what you are in the dark. – Dwight L. Moody
(The integrity of the upright shall guide them… – Proverbs 11:3)

5. The happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.
(…For I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. – Philippians 4:11,13)

6. Every job is a self-portrait of the person who does it. Autograph your work with excellence. – Unknown
(Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him… – Daniel 6:3)

7. If you don’t stand for something you’ll fall for anything!
(…If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all. – Isaiah 7:9)

8. A man never discloses his own character so clearly as when he describes another’s. – Jean Paul Richter
(A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things; and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. – Matthew 12:35)

9. What you do speaks so loud that I cannot hear what you say. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
(Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. – James 2:18)

10. I don’t know the secret to success but the key to failure is to try to please everyone. – Bill Cosby
(Am I now trying to win the approval of man or of God? – Galatians 1:10a)

It is my intent that these optimistic life quotes empower and equip you. My desire is that they put you in a positive mindset that encourages and motivates you as you charge forth on your journey of life.

How often do you praise yourself for achievements that you’ve made in the past? We’re always encouraged to view the glass as half full but we don’t always take proper action to reward ourselves when we make great accomplishments.

When we train dogs, we’re taught that we should praise them and reward them when they do right. But when they do bad, we have to let them know as well so that they learn the difference between right and wrong.

Unfortunately when we do wrong or make mistakes, we reminded of the fact because we beat ourselves up about it. We know, all to well, when we fail at something because we remind ourselves over and over with such negative self talk.

The problem is that we don’t uplift ourselves enough when we do good. I know we’re taught to be humble and not to toot our own horn, but there comes a time when you have to break down and award yourself. Here are 4 ways to reward yourself when celebrating some of life’s greatest accomplishments.

1. Indulge – Next time you pass by the ice cream aisle or cookie stand at the supermarket, slip a box or 2 into your shopping cart. Better yet, on the way home stop by Krispy Kreme Donuts and grab a box of hot donuts fresh right out the oven. The key to doing this is to be in the moment. Dwell on the hard work that you’ve put forth and celebrate your achievements.

2. Take some time off – Schedule time off and get some rest and relaxation. You don’t want to make life all work and no play. Take time off and enjoy the laid back pleasures of life.

3. Pamper yourself – There’s nothing more rewarding than being pampered. Make an appointment with the local masseuse and get a sixty minute full body massage.

4. Weekend retreat - Certainly you wouldn’t want to celebrate alone. Why not book a weekend retreat with friends, a few hours away from home?

Life is all about balance. We beat ourselves up about failures too much and it’s very imperative that we reward ourselves for our successes. How you choose to celebrate yourself isn’t as important as the simple fact that you celebrate accomplishments. Make a point to reward yourself more often as you charge forth on your journey of life.

Some of the phrases that we say on nearly a daily basis are very damaging to our psyche. Would you tell your three year old child that he would never amount to nothing? Why would you say that to yourself?

You may not directly say that to yourself in those exact words but you communicate that to yourself indirectly, through other words and phrases. Remember, anything you say to yourself over and over again, whether good or bad, is something that you start to believe. You embed those thoughts and behaviors into your mind.

The same words and behaviors that you choose to use around children, should be the same care that you exercise when talking to yourself. Below, I’ve devised six phrases that should be eliminated from your vocabulary.

1. I Can’t – It’s no wonder that you never end up accomplishing the things that you want out of life, when you tell yourself that you can’t do something. When you go about life with an attitude that you can’t, then you never will. Change your mentality from an I can’t to a Can Do mentality.

2. I don’t deserve – At a young age, we’re all taught to be humble and put others before ourselves, and I agree. However, there are times when you have to consider yourself. You have to reward yourself for your own hard work. Many people sabotage themselves because they focus on what they feel they don’t deserve. Eliminate this phrase from your mentality and reward yourself for the things that you do deserve.

3. I’m not good enough – I’ve been playing drums for about 18 years now. One of the phrases that I’ve heard way too often coming up, while conversing with others, is “I’m not good enough.” Many people would ask me, “how are you so coordinated? How do you do this with your right hand, while doing that with your left foot, while keeping your right foot going?” And the next thing I hear them utter to themselves is, “wow, I’m not that coordinated, I don’t see how you do it. I could never learn to play drums like that.”

Many of the challenges that we’re well capable of, we end up convincing ourselves out of doing. The words that we indirectly say to ourselves communicate, “I’m not good enough.” When you see a juggler skillfully juggling and you find that’s something that sparks your interest, totally eliminate this phrase from your vocabulary. Instead, declare that you can do all things through Christ which strengthens you.

4. I’m a failure – Sometimes things happen in life that seem to go against everything you’re shooting for. No matter what you put your hands to do, it seems that nothing ever goes in your favor. It doesn’t mean that you’re a failure. No matter what anyone says, you are not a failure, you are a victor.

The world wants to program your thinking so that if you fail so many times, it means you’re a failure. I’m here to tell you other wise my friend. God’s thinking is not like man’s thinking. He’s sees the end and He has a plan just for you. Change the phrase from I’m a failure to I’m more than a conqueror. I am an overcomer.

5. I’ll never get better – I talk very often about stepping out of your comfort zone and not falling prey to stagnation. While I encourage you to constantly strive and push forward into the next dimension of life, it’s important not to fall prey to discouragement.

It may seem like there’s no way possible for you to progress forward into a new dimension, but when you say, “I’ll never get better,” you are speaking death into your destiny. Change this phrase from I’ll never get better to I’m getting better and better everyday and in a whole new way.

6. I give up – This phrase is a product of the previous phrase. The second you give in and throw in the towel, is the second that your breakthrough releases. After a certain amount of time fighting and stressing to make things happen, we make a detrimental decision to throw in the towel. Don’t give into defeat my friend. Continue to fight and push forth until the victory is won.

Remember, you have great power in what you can accomplish or the type of person you can be by the words you speak over yourself. If you tear yourself down with thoughts that are detrimental to your well being, then you will never achieve the level of success that you want to achieve. Take time out to eliminate negative thoughts and phrases out of your mind and you will notice a difference in the motivation and drive that you have as you charge forth on your journey of life.

I was watching the movie Dr. Dolittle today and it reminded me of the way we talk to ourselves and the people we hang around. You see, Eddie Murphy’s character in the movie could hear the animals talking to him. And there was this one particular scene in the movie where the hamster was calling him names like, crazy man, weirdo, dummy, you name it- every dirty name in the book, the hamster called him that name.

I got to thinking, it may not be so bad if I heard animals talking to me because I’m the type of person that would simply ignore them. I would tune the animals out to the point to where people around me would never know that I could hear them.

Then I thought that although I may be able to tune out the animals, I can’t control what comes out of their mouths. It’s like being a parent and not being able control what channel is playing on TV while your kids are watching. Good luck.

The thing about having this problem is that seemingly, everywhere you go there are animals. You go outside there are birds talking to you. People are walking their dogs. There are even squirrels in trees. No matter where Dr. Dolittle ran he always heard animals talking to him. He couldn’t run from them.

I always talk about the disservice you are doing to yourself by negative self talk. I also write about the importance of surrounding yourself around the right people because some people can speak death into you.

The hamster scene in Dr. Dolittle reminds us of the way we talk to ourselves and the people in which we choose to surround ourselves. If you surround yourselves around people who speak death into you and not life, then you might as well have the same problem as Dr. Dolittle.

It’s not until you choose to filter out certain people who are of no benefit to you, that you will start to progress in life. Remember, you are the company that you keep. The more negativity that someone speaks over you, the more you start to believe it. Surround yourself with like minded people who will encourage and motivate you to do your best, as you charge forth in you journey of life.

A wise man once said: “An idle mind is the devils workshop.” I believe this is true. I always say if you don’t fill your mind, then the devil will fill it for you. The enemy will try to convince you that you’re not good enough or that you’re not physically able to do something. He’ll even try to convince you that you’re loosing your mind.

Don’t allow the enemy to get into your mind and convince you that you’re worthless. You can have so many trials coming at you left and right but remember, Ephesians 6:12 tells us: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

You make your trials worse than they really are by the thoughts that you think in your mind. Our biggest battle is the battle we have in our mind. My friend we have to take control of our thoughts and actions. Below, I have devised a list of 25 positive affirmations, that will help give you a more positive outlook on life:

The sky is the limit to what I can have.

I put all past mistakes and failures behind me; I delightfully look forward to a new day and new opportunities.

I am what God says I am, I can do anything He says I can do.

I choose to exercise patience as I go along my daily journey.

I live one day at a time, I do not worry about the future.

I commit adequate time daily to praying and studying the Word of God.

I set realistic goals; I write them down and I put a plan of action in place to accomplish them.

I choose to set a positive environment for my loved ones, circle of friends and other social environments in which I interact.

I remove all limits off myself, for with God, I can excel to a new dimension in my life.

I think positive thoughts at all times and I accept the confidence I feel because of it.

I love the balance I get from weekly fellowships with my friends.

I am inspired because of the great strides I’m making in my career.

I devote time to myself daily because I know I deserve it.

Because I take pride in what I put in my body, I engage in eating 3 healthy meals a day.

God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of love and of a sound mind.

I choose to operate in peace and love.

I thrive off of my past failures for they inspire me to succeed.

I immediately seize every opportunity and open door as they are presented to me.

I refrain from putting unnecessary pressure on myself and do my best in everything I do.

I value my relationships and I delight in reaching out a helping hand.

I value difficult challenges for they provide opportunities to improve my weaknesses.

I accept myself for who I am, and I also accept others for who they are.

I make wise decisions that are beneficial for me in the present day and in my future.

I create balance in my life. I devote adequate time to myself, family, and my career and I keep them all within perspective.

I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.

It may be helpful to say each affirmation out loud 3 times to yourself. This is something you can do while you’re in your car on the way to work or before you lay down at night. I also encourage you to study the word of God more. The word of God is full of affirmations.

Don’t let the enemy convince you against what the word of God tells you. The word of God tells us that we are more than a conqueror. It reminds us that we are victorious. My friend if these two affirmations alone aren’t enough to get you excited and fired up then I don’t know what is. Take control of your mind starting today as you go through your life journey.

Life is like a game of chess. Many times the enemy will attack us harder when we are making strides that are detrimental to the enemy’s camp. In other words, when the enemy sees us making a move that will take us to a new dimension in our life, he will attack us where it matters most, our minds.

The bible says for we wrestle not against flesh in blood, but against principalities, powers and rulers of the darkness. When we’re doing something good, the enemy will plant strongholds into our minds to make us think, “You’re no good, you’ll never make it” or “you’re not qualified for this; what makes you think you can achieve such a high goal.”

I recently started a youtube channel and I am video blogging on a regular basis. For years I’ve always wanted to start doing videos but I’ve been putting it off for the longest. Until one day recently when I made a decision that I’m not going to wait any longer. I realized that the more I wait, the more I’m giving the enemy power and control over my dreams.

I’ll never forget when I posted my first video, I remember thinking, “What in the world am I doing? This is not me, this is not what I’m used to doing.” Does this sound familiar?

Then I realized that the enemy was planting those thoughts into my mind. I then counteracted that thought by thinking, “well of course I’m going to feel uneasy right now. I’m starting something new that I’ve never done before, but in time, I will not only get used to this, but I’m going to do this with excellence.”

When we fight the enemy with Word of God which reminds us that we can do all things through Christ with strengthens us, or scriptures that reassure us that we’re not fighting against flesh and blood but principalities and strongholds, then we are taking control over our dreams and our destiny. The enemy trembles at the name of Jesus, therefore our best defense against the enemy is to fight him with the word of God.

Next time you take a step out of your comfort zone and do something that causes a threat to the enemies camp, and you struggle with the negative thoughts that cause self-doubt, stand strong and know that it’s the trick of the enemy to convince you that you won’t make it. Keep pressing and you will see a mighty work of God in your life as you go through your life journey.
