Everyday you have the ability to leave a trail of smiles behind you. With just a simple hello, a smile to a stranger, or an unexpected compliment to a friend, you can change another person’s day for the better. You can leave them better than before.
You never know what a person is going through. They may be on the verge of a breakdown. They may have gotten the worst news of a lifetime. They might have lost their best friend or even worse, a close family member. And when you’re a light, when you’re good to others, not only will you make their day, but God’s goodness will show up in your own life.
You may say, “Jarrod, I shouldn’t have to go out of my way just to compliment another.” No, do you know that it’s a blessing to be a blessing? Do you know that when you affect others in a positive way, blessings will overtake you in a whole new way.
With just one kind deed, you can be the good that the world needs to see. It could be something as simple as holding the door open for another, or letting someone go ahead of you in the check out line.
They may not show it. Some may have a rough exterior; but I truly believe that when you’re kind, you’re making a difference. You’re planting a seed for more kindness to show up in your life. And not only that, but an interesting thing begins to happen; a railroad effect, if you will. One person will pay the blessing forward and show goodness to another. And another person will bless another person, and so on.
On and on, one by one, people will begin to see to it that they’ve done one kind deed in the life of another. Take some time to find one person and sow a few words of encouragement. Be the ear that they need. Be willing to help. Make it your business to make somebody else feel better about themselves. Leave them better off than they were before. When you do so, you’ll reach new heights in life, and you too will be better off than before!
