Whose Counsel are You Seeking?
ByThere are times when we come to a fork in the road. When this happens we find ourselves seeking direction.
The problem comes into play when we seek the wrong people for directions. If were not careful, we’ll find ourselves even further from the destination than when we began.
Too often, this happens in life. You come to a fork in the road where you have the choice to either go left or right. Many of us ask our friends, we ask the neighbor, we may even go as far as to seek a counselor.
While it’s good to be open to their ideas and opinions, we should not forget who the ultimate counselor is. If you follow the wrong counsel, nine times out of ten you will find yourself deeper in trouble.
Make no mistake, God appoints people in the earthly realm to give you direction. But they are not to substitute the Lord’s counsel. Their advice should line up with the plan God has for you.
In fact, Proverbs 3:5-6 bids you to trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. But in all of your ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.

Notice the scripture didn’t say to seek man only and man will direct your path. It didn’t say to rely only on the psychiatrist or the physician. No it says to seek the Lord and He will direct your path.
Isn’t it amazing that we serve a God who orders our steps? Remember, He has the road-map. He’s is the ultimate Guide. And without Him we’re lost. Even before you we’re born, He had the course plotted
Something amazing happens when we make a decision to relinquish our control and let the captain of our ship have the wheel. If I were to use a metaphor, I would say one thing that can make or break your cruise vacation is to have the captain of the ship get off course. But we serve a God who is always on course. He knows which road to take.
Make a decision today to rely not on the world’s way of doing things. No instead let’s be mindful of what Romans 12:2 tells us- to not conform to this world but be transformed by the renewing of our mind. If you seek the Lord, He will renew your mind and He will guide your footsteps. Another scripture encourages us that God is the rewarder of those who diligently seek after Him.
So when you find yourself at a crossroads in life, make it your passion to diligently seek after Him. When it seems like everyone is going left, God just might be bidding you to go right. Your friends might turn around and go back but God may be urging you to stay the course and continue straight ahead. If you seek the Lord in everything you do, I believe He will provide clear directions for you and cause you to arrive at the desired destination that God has in store for you!
