I heard an empowering story about the extraordinary inventor Thomas Edison. He owned a factory that was made of concrete and steel. This factory was deemed fireproof.

One night in 1914 the unbelievable happened. His factory burst up in flames. His son, Charles, found him watching as his factory slowly dissolved. He was devastated for his father. Here he was a man at the age 67 and everything he worked for has been totally destroyed.

The next morning, Edison looked at the ruins of his factory and said this: “There’s value in disaster. All our mistakes are burned up. Thank God, we can start anew.”

We can all learn from Edison’s strength and courage to bounce back. No matter what happens in life, no matter what the enemy tries to destroy, know that God has given you the strength to start anew.

That lifelong spiritual kingdom that you’ve been building may be torn down in an instant but the lessons that you’ve learned along the way will linger on for time and time to come. Tangible things may be taken away from you but your wisdom and courage can’t be taken away.

When it seems like everything is going up in flames, know that that’s an opportunity to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. Know that God has given you the opportunity to run the race trouble free. When you take on this perspective, I believe you will rise to higher heights and receive all that God has in store for you!
