4 Ways To Reward Yourself For Achievements
4 Ways To Reward Yourself For Achievements
ByHow often do you praise yourself for achievements that you’ve made in the past? We’re always encouraged to view the glass as half full but we don’t always take proper action to reward ourselves when we make great accomplishments.
When we train dogs, we’re taught that we should praise them and reward them when they do right. But when they do bad, we have to let them know as well so that they learn the difference between right and wrong.
Unfortunately when we do wrong or make mistakes, we reminded of the fact because we beat ourselves up about it. We know, all to well, when we fail at something because we remind ourselves over and over with such negative self talk.
The problem is that we don’t uplift ourselves enough when we do good. I know we’re taught to be humble and not to toot our own horn, but there comes a time when you have to break down and award yourself. Here are 4 ways to reward yourself when celebrating some of life’s greatest accomplishments.

1. Indulge – Next time you pass by the ice cream aisle or cookie stand at the supermarket, slip a box or 2 into your shopping cart. Better yet, on the way home stop by Krispy Kreme Donuts and grab a box of hot donuts fresh right out the oven. The key to doing this is to be in the moment. Dwell on the hard work that you’ve put forth and celebrate your achievements.
2. Take some time off – Schedule time off and get some rest and relaxation. You don’t want to make life all work and no play. Take time off and enjoy the laid back pleasures of life.
3. Pamper yourself – There’s nothing more rewarding than being pampered. Make an appointment with the local masseuse and get a sixty minute full body massage.
4. Weekend retreat - Certainly you wouldn’t want to celebrate alone. Why not book a weekend retreat with friends, a few hours away from home?
Life is all about balance. We beat ourselves up about failures too much and it’s very imperative that we reward ourselves for our successes. How you choose to celebrate yourself isn’t as important as the simple fact that you celebrate accomplishments. Make a point to reward yourself more often as you charge forth on your journey of life.

hi jarrod,
how are you? thanks for sharing this article.
now i dont really like donuts and it’s been years since i had one but that picture is giving me a few thoughts lol!!
anyway i always try as much as i can to indulge myself sensibly so ice cream will do. i also try to get some sleep; believe me i treasure a good rest and i always look forward to friday nights thats when i sleep in the living room with the whole family while just chatting awaying for 2/3 hours more than i’d usually have done. it’s extremely important we reward ourselves within reason for a job well done or activities performed. it’s also a time were we just put everything aside temporarily and relax.
enjoy the rest of the day.
I like this post especially with the Krispy Kreme pic (Sweet!) You’re right that life is about balance. Now, this doesn’t mean he wants you all to eat donuts for life and grow fat. The key word is BALANCE! All work and no play makes anyone dull. And Jarrod’s right, if your dogs get treats, so should you. You’re much better than a dog. And taking a break has many benefits for body and mind. http://sn.im/vlvxi speaks of reasons why our body and mind needs that balance.
Wonderful post Jarrod. Thanks for reminding us to take some time and pamper our selves. I’m in the middle of writing a novel and it’s very challenging. There are times that I even forget to eat. Today I think I will pamper myself. Get my feet done and toe nails colored with a bright color, I don’t know maybe yellow it’s spring after all lol. God bless Jarrod and keep up the good work!
Rewarding ourselves and celebrating our successes, both small and large, makes life so much sweeter. Plus, I think when we learn to treat ourselves better we also treat others better.
Hi Ayo,
I hope you’re well? Sounds like you’ve got the reward thing down! You will be surprised how some people never treat themselves to anything. Thanks for sharing!!
Hi Megan,
I’m glad this went over well because, the key word here is BALANCE, you’re right. I’m not suggesting that one should go and over-indulge or loose sense of focus, there should be balance when it comes to certain foods like Krispy Kreme or ice cream. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Ruby,
Wow writing a novel, huh? You do deserve to be pampered! Too bad I can’t go and get my hair and nails done…lol. But a nice massage will do the trick.
I wish you success on your novel. Be sure to let me know when you’re done, I want to support you!!
Thanks for stopping by!
Welcome Jean,
I love the point that you made about when we learn to treat ourselves better we treat others better as well. That’s so true, we can’t truly love someone else until we learn to love ourselves.
Thanks for stopping by!!
Hi Jarrod,
I love this post. I just had a friend ‘wrestle’ me to go to the spa for a massage the other day. I admit there was some guilt, but it was very short lived and I was a new person for taking that much needed break. Balance is key.
Have a Blessed Day!
Hi Kim,
I’m sure in your line of work you deserve more than just a spa day!
I’m glad you didn’t fall prey to the guilt because that day is going to pay off!(if it already hasn’t)
Take care!
