Which Law Are You Abiding By?
ByI’m reminded of a favorite joke of mine about a group of elderly ladies who got pulled over by the highway patrol on the freeway. As the cop approached the window he said, “Ma’am I clocked you going 35mph.”
She says “Yes, yes officer I know.” The officer responded, “would you mind telling me why you were going 35?” “Because the sign said 35, sir.” He responds, “Ma’am that’s the highway number… you’re traveling on highway 35.” He then proceeded to clarify that the speed limit is 60mph.
The officer then looked at the other ladies in the vehicle and asked, “by the way, why do these ladies look terrified?” She responded “because we just got off highway 95.” (Drum roll!)
This makes a great point because it reminds us that we live in a society with rules and regulations. As a result, the government places limits on how fast we can drive.
I’m all for this in the natural sense because if there were no limits, people would be driving crazy, just like the lady in the joke, and it wouldn’t be safe to travel. There’s even a slowness limit because if you drive to slow, then you become a safety hazard.
The average car can go up to speeds of 100mph and above. And you may say what would I need with a car that goes 100mph when I can only go 70mph at the highest according to law. (Most people probably push 80 on average anyway but that’s a different story for a different blog.) Smile!
Shifting gears now
As it applies to life, is it possible that you’ve taken the same laws and concepts that society has placed on you, and hold yourself to personal limitations? Do you place a limit on how high you can go in life?
Just like the lady who thought the speed limit was 95, she was abiding by a law of mis-thinking (if you will). This elderly lady was probably running people over, swerving in and out of lanes, going at extreme speeds all while thinking she was in the right. She could probably barely see over the steering wheel, I mean the mere picture of it is rather hilarious.
But once she got to highway 35 and proceeded to go below the slowness limit, it was as if she was conditioned to a different mode of thinking than the other drivers on the road.
How have you been conditioned to thinking in life? Are you using your full potential or are you settling to the limits that you’ve placed on yourself? It would be an awful shame to use 70 percent of your potential when you have 30 percent unused.
The good thing about being in control of your personal dreams, is that no one can place limitations on you, only you can. You control what speed you’re going in life. Whether you choose to utilize 35, 70, or 100 percent of your potential, know that there is no one who can pull you over in life and tell you that you’re in the wrong.
I’m reminded of a great song that says “Lord I’m running, trying to make one-hundred because ninety-nine and a half won’t do.”
What law are you abiding by? Are you abiding by the 70 percent potential law, or the 100 percent potential law? Your destiny is up to you. Make every effort to access all 100mph of your personal engine. While everyone else may be maximizing 70 percent potential, I encourage you to utilize all 100 percent of your efforts as you charge forth in your life journey.

Lately I’ve been going 100 miles an hour – think I will take a day or two and tone it down to 70 – then right back up to 100.
I LOL’d at the joke about the old woman at the beginning as well – very funny.
@Jeremy – Yeah, sometimes you have to take a break. And with the hard work you’ve been doing you deserve a break my friend.
LOL… this is my favorite joke. I love to tell it!
