Ingredients For Success
Ingredients For Success
ByWhat is success really? When we think of success, we think about the outcome of the hard work we put into something.
The word success, as a noun, is defined as: the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors. This definition puts us in the mind-set that success is the outcome or end result of the work that we put into something.
Do you adopt a successful mind-set?
Do you wait until you have achieved your goal to declare that you are successful or do you choose to develop a successful mind-set during your attempts and endeavors to achieve your goal? Below I have devised an acronym for the word success that will put you in a “right-now successful” mind-set.
S – Strength - Success doesn’t come easy. For many people it requires stepping out of their comfort zones and going to great lengths in which they are not comfortable or stepping into areas that they are weak in.
Remember, 2 Corinthians 12:10 tells us: “Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.” Never complain about areas where you’re weak in. When you do so, you are surrendering your victory to the enemy and the enemy’s goal is to steal, kill and destroy. Don’t let your weakness destroy what God has in store for you.
U – Unafraid - The Psalmist said: “Be not dismayed, neither be afraid for the good shepherd knows what you need.” I’ll never forget when I was younger, my parents allowed me to ride my bike to the end of the street which seemed to be so far away from home. It seemed this way because I wasn’t used to being that far from home by myself. (Keyword = by myself…) I was used to be far from home only when in the car with my parents.
What am I saying? While on your endeavors to achieve what God has called you to do, you may reach levels where the enemy will try to convince you that you don’t deserve to be here. He’ll try to scare you into thinking that you are too far from your comfort zone and that you should turn around and go back home before you get lost. Be not afraid for God knows what you need.
C – Confidence - Have the faith that you can achieve anything that you said your mind to do. Personally, I associate the word Confidence with the word Faith because when you are confident, you don’t look to anyone else for validation. When you’re confident, you know that the beliefs you hold about yourself, are indeed true.
Faith is the same in the sense that, just because you don’t see the end result, you know that if you believe, you will receive. Remember, Hebrews 11:1 tells us: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
C – Conqueror – Romans 8:37 tells us: “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” When you keep this scripture close and dear to your heart, there is nothing in this world that you can’t accomplish. Remember my friend, God is on your side. If God be for us, who can be against us? Nothing or no one can be against us!
E – Encourage - David encouraged himself in the Lord. 1 Samuel 30:6 tells us: “And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.”
The thing about reaching for success is that, along your journey you will come across people who will try to talk you out of what you’re shooting for. Many times people will tell you that what you’re doing never worked for them and in turn, they will try convince you that you shouldn’t waste your time doing it either.
Sometimes you have to be your own support system. The psalmist said: “The sky is the limit to what you can have.” Encourage yourself even when the day seems dim. Always know that there is a rainbow after the storm.
S – Sworn - Dedication is a synonym for the word sworn. A minister who begins his ministry has to go through a process where he is “sworn-in”. He has to be dedicated to the ministry, not only when everything is looking good but even during the dark days. You must remain dedicated to your goals even when you don’t see the results of what you are going for.
S – Sow - Luke 6:38 tells us: “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”
Sow into the lives of others and you will reap the benefits. Remember, to whom much is given, much is required. When God is ready to bless you, He looks to see if you are mature enough to handle what He’s getting ready bless you with. He determines this based on how you have handled past blessings. Humble yourself and give unselfishly into the lives of others.
In conclusion, when you develop this mind-set and adopt these principles you will find that, no matter what you put your hands to do, you have the confidence in knowing that you are already successful, even when things don’t appear to be in your favor.
Success has a railroad effect. It doesn’t happen over night. Success comes with the consistency and dedication that you have towards your goal. As long as you are faithful in God and yourself, He will reward you with success as you go through your life journey.
