Let Go of The Idols In Your Life
Let Go of The Idols In Your Life
By
We live in a world today where technology is constantly on the rise. There is so much to captivate our attention that it’s getting harder to take out time to meditate on Word and pray like we should.
With cellphones, internet and television keeping us captivated, we find that our priorities are often out of place.
What are the priorities in life?
Priority is defined as – something given special attention.
Priorities are those things that we can’t sacrifice giving up in exchange for another thing or person. It’s those things that occupy most of our time.
Do you find that your priorities are out of place?
Personally,I always have to have on the TV or the computer or even the music. And one day as I was meditating, I got a nudging in my spirit that God wants more of my time.
Have you ever been to an event and someone comes on the PA and makes an announcement, and they begin by saying, “excuse me, may I have your undivided attention?”
They say that because they know that when you are paying half attention to what they are saying you will miss the essence of what is being said. Friends God wants our undivided attention.
Remember, our God is a jealous God. We know this because it tells us in Exodus 20:3-5.
3) You shall have no other gods before Me.
4) Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth:
5) Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me;
When I think of the fact that God commands us not to put any false God’s before Him, I often think about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and while in the fiery furnace they we’re being made to bow down to the king.
I use to think, “well, I would never bow down to a person,” because I know that God commands us not to.
Are we often guilty of putting physical, possessive idols before God?
Throughout the day, we have to be entertained in some way or another whether it’s television, cellphones, music. Sadly, I think that we even go as far as to put people before God in the sense that we’re looking forward to our fellowship with friends more so than we value our time with God.
Friends God wants to know that we love Him. I believe that when we make physical idols our number one priority, we are neglecting Him. The proof is in the text of John 14:15 “If you love me, keep my commandments.”
I’m not saying that you shouldn’t take time out for TV and computers but just consider setting a time everyday to meditate on Him and worship the father. I believe that in doing this He will give you the desires of your heart.
