4 Tips To Overcome Procrastination
4 Tips To Overcome Procrastination
By“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.” Ecclesiastes 9:10
A wise man once said, “Procrastination is, hands down, our favorite form of self-sabotage.”
God allows us 24 hours a day and it’s up to us to manage the time that we’re given within that time frame.
Are you bad at procrastinating? Here are some tips to help you manage your time more efficiently.
1 Budget your time
Just like you have to budget your money, you have to approach your time in the same manner. Make a time-line of what you plan on doing and stick to it.
2 Be reasonable, allow yourself plenty of time.
I am the worst when it comes to trying to turn a three hour project in to a 30 minute project. And these are words for me to live by as well but if you have a deadline to meet and you’re allowed an hour for preparation and you only use 30 minutes of that, you are bringing unneeded stress on yourself.
3 Set your clocks ahead.
Set your alarm clock about 30 minutes ahead so that it goes off 30 minutes prior to the actual wake up time. This will allow you an extra 30 minute time wall for getting ready when you wake up.
4 Just Do It… and do it now.
I’m a firm believer in the Nike slogan, Just Do It. It’s like an affirmation that you should live by. Whenever you’re faced with a challenge, it’s always helpful to say to yourself, “Just Do It.” Follow up by saying, I won’t do it later but I will do it now.
Sometimes when I know I have a test coming, the hardest thing about preparing myself for the test is opening the book. Once my book is open it’s all in front of me, but as long as the books are in my school bag, I make the excuse of saying I will do it later and before I know it, it’s too late. Practice, exercising the “Just Do It” slogan.
No matter what you are procrastinating about, always remember that the longer you put it off, the more chance there is that you won’t get started. I’m reminded of an old song that says “If I labor God is going to give me a crown…” and it goes on to say “Work, in the vineyard, the sun is going down.”
Don’t let your sun go down before you get your work done. Exercise using all of the time that you’re given to complete your tasks. Life is less stressful when you plan your time. Take the steps and apply it to your life today. Just Do It… now!
